General Gau, who is Deputy Head of Steering Committee 515 (the National Steering Committee for the Search, Recovery, and Identification of Fallen Soldiers' Remains) visited the University of Georgia and a leading US military forensic facility on Wednesday.
His delegation was introduced to ground-penetrating radar and other advanced technologies. The University of Georgia promised to transfer technology, conduct training courses for Vietnamese recovery teams, and share mapping data.
Earlier, the delegation conducted a survey and exchanged practical experience at the Armed Forces Medical Examiner System in Delaware. Discussions focused on the use of next-generation forensic techniques and record management procedures at the Armed Forces DNA Identification Laboratory.
General Gau said the information gained from this visit will help Steering Committee 515 conduct research, provide counsel, and propose solutions for refining military forensic identification processes in Vietnam.
