The nationwide broadcast connected four symbolic venues: the memorial dedicated to fallen heroes in Thanh Thuy Commune of Tuyen Quang Province, the Bac Son Monument in Hanoi, Road 9 National Martyrs’ Cemetery in Quang Tri Province, and Le Thi Rieng Park in Ho Chi Minh City.
Party General Secretary and State President To Lam and Prime Minister Le Minh Hung attended the program from the Hanoi venue, while National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man joined the event from Ho Chi Minh City.
A key focus of the program was the nationwide 500-day campaign to intensify the search, recovery, and identification of the remains of fallen soldiers. Viewers watched a series of documentaries chronicling the ongoing efforts to bring the remains of martyrs to their families.
“I feel very proud to participate in this program. I am grateful to the heroes who sacrificed their lives for the independence, freedom, and peace we enjoy today. As a soldier of the Vietnam People’s Army, I will strive harder to contribute to national construction and defense,” said Private Tran Trung Thai of Military Region 4, who attended the program with fellow soldiers at the Quang Tri venue.
Veteran Do Thanh Tam from Lao Cai Province and his comrades attended the event at Road 9 National Martyrs’ Cemetery.
“We came here to revisit the old battlefield and pay tribute to our comrades who laid down their lives for our country’s peace and reunification. We are deeply moved by the spirit and sacrifice of the heroic martyrs,” said Tam.
The 500-day campaign aims to recover approximately 7,000 sets of martyrs’ remains, complete biological sample collection from 230,000 unidentified martyrs’ graves, and conduct DNA testing on 18,000 samples of recovered remains.
