Local authorities nationwide are rolling out measures to stimulate domestic consumption, expand retail sales, strengthen distribution networks, and stabilize markets in order to generate fresh momentum for economic expansion.
In Ho Chi Minh City, domestic consumption has been identified as one of the main engines for achieving this year's economic growth target. The city aims to increase total retail sales of goods and consumer services 15% this year.
To reach that goal, the city is expanding consumer stimulus programs, strengthening supply-demand linkages, upgrading distribution systems, and promoting modern retail services. A flagship initiative, the "Green Tick of Responsibility" program, is designed to encourage consumption and improve consumer confidence.
Nguyen Nguyen Phuong, Deputy Director of the municipal Department of Industry and Trade, said: “500 suppliers have registered to participate, with more than 5,000 products certified by 12 major retail chains as meeting the "Green Tick" standards. Retailers have created dedicated sections for these products, making it easier for consumers to identify and purchase safe, high-quality goods. The initiative is enhancing transparency in supply chains and creating greater market opportunities for certified products that meet rising consumer expectations for quality, safety, and sustainability.”
To further strengthen the domestic market as a growth engine in the second half of the year, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has launched an action plan to implement Vietnam's Retail Market Development Strategy through 2030, with a vision to 2050.
Tran Huu Linh, Director of the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s Domestic Markets Department, said: "We’re introducing a wide range of measures to help Vietnamese businesses improve their competitiveness and enable products that are entirely made in Vietnam to win greater consumer confidence. At the same time, distribution networks, commercial infrastructure, shopping malls, and supermarkets are rolling out promotional programs to encourage the consumption of homegrown products."
Unlocking the potential of the domestic market will cushion the economy against external shocks and lay a stronger foundation for sustainable long-term growth.
