The Vietnam Red Cross Society will conduct multiple humanitarian activities including providing support to ensure sustainable livelihoods for 17,000 disadvantaged households, organizing “Compassion Days” in communes and wards nationwide, and conducting nationwide blood donation campaigns.

Nguyen Hai Anh, Vice President and Secretary General of the Vietnam Red Cross Society, said: “Humanitarian Month 2026 is aimed at shifting from short-term aid to sustainable support, focusing on livelihoods and empowering people to increase their self-reliance. At the same time, we will promote digital transformation in humanitarian activities to ensure transparency and accountability in mobilizing and using resources. These activities aim to affirm Vietnam’s international humanitarian responsibility for proactively sharing and supporting international friends in times of difficulty.”

At the launch ceremony of Humanitarian Month 2026 in Hanoi, the Vietnam Red Cross Society gave 500 gift packages to disadvantaged families, and received pledges of support for its branches in multiple provinces and cities.

Bui Thi Tap from Hung Yen said: “I was very happy to receive a gift of instant noodles, rice, paper, laundry detergent, toothpaste, and more. As I’m hospitalized, these items are very necessary to me.”

Tran Sy Pha, Head of the Social Affairs and Disaster Management Department of the Vietnam Red Cross Society, said: “After research on sustainable livelihood development, we’re introducing livelihood models that are adapted to climate change in different regions. These models are part of a shift from short-term aid to sustainable livelihood support.”

Hue city presented 20 gift packages to poor households and helped construct 3 “Red Cross Houses” for disadvantaged families.

Activities held in Ho Chi Minh City included blood donations, free eye examinations, and the donation of 300 shopping vouchers to policy beneficiary households and disadvantaged families for use in the “Zero-dong Supermarket”.

As Vietnam enters a new era of development, innovation, and breakthroughs, humanitarian work contributes to socio-political stability, reflects the nation’s cultural tradition, and serves as a vehicle of soft power in international relations.
