Ta Xua is competing with 6 other destinations: Koh Kood in Thailand, Melaka in Malaysia, Morioka in Japan, Sumba Island in Indonesia, Taipei (Taiwan, China), and Ninh Binh in Vietnam. What sets Ta Xua apart is its unique natural beauty and authentic local culture. At an altitude of 1,600 meters, Ta Xua is famous for the spectacular "sea of clouds" stretching over its mountain ranges.
Ta Xua boasts the culture of the Mong ethnic group, traditional houses, indigo dyeing, brocade weaving, and ancient Shan Tuyet tea plantations. The combination of landscape, climate, and community life gives Ta Xua a character that no urban or coastal destination can match.
Do Van Xiem, Chairman of Ta Xua Commune People's Committee, said: "Ta Xua has tremendous potential for tourism development thanks to its natural and cultural assets. It’s known as the 'paradise of clouds' and is home to the famous Dinosaur Spine Ridge, magnificent waterfalls, beautiful trekking peaks, terraced fields, and vast grasslands. Our local specialties include ancient Shan Tuyet tea and Son Tra apples. The commune is home to the Mong ethnic group, whose traditions are diverse and well-preserved."
According to Le Thi Hong Anh, Deputy Director of the Son La Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Ta Xua's appeal lies also in the simplicity, warmth, and hospitality of its people. She said authorities are working to unlock the destination's full tourism potential.
Ms Hong Anh said: "Since Ta Xua was nominated for Asia's Leading Emerging Tourism Destination 2026, authorities at the provincial and communal level have stepped up efforts to further develop tourism here. The nomination will raise Ta Xua's profile with domestic and international travelers, and we hope it will attract even more visitors in the years ahead."
