Traditional Mid-Autumn activities like watching a lion dance, beating a festival drum, and joining a lantern procession fulfill the dreams of children in Muong Cai, Chieng Khoong commune.
To delight the children, Son La border guards performed magic shows, musical acts and a skit about Chu Cuoi, a legendary figure associated with the moon in Vietnamese folklore.
The children are excited with the Mid-Autumn festival celebration.
“I’m very happy. I got to watch a lion dance, and it was my first time. I really enjoyed it.”
“I really like the Mid-Autumn Festival. I received lots of gifts, and I’m very happy.”
Despite the difficulties of reaching these remote areas, donor organizations brought the children Mid-Autumn gifts of confectionery, toys, warm clothes, and scholarships.
Each gift carried a message of love and caring. Do Minh Hanh of the Sơn La Department of Health, said: “We’re very happy to work with the Muong Cai Border Guard Station to organize a meaningful Mid-Autumn Festival for children in the border area. We hope children across Vietnam enjoy a warm, memorable festival.”
In other border areas of Son La province, similar Full Moon Festival celebrations are being held. Colonel Vu Duc Tu, Deputy Political Commissar of the Sơn La Border Guard Command, said: “In addition to recreational activities, the borderland Mid-Autumn Festival also includes gifts for the children. We make sure that care reaches all local children, including those at remote schools, so every child can enjoy a warm, happy Mid-Autumn Festival.”
Celebrating the full moon brings joy to children throughout Sơn La’s borderlands, and motivates them to overcome difficulties and move forward in their life.
