Election results reflect people’s confidence in political system

(VOVWORLD) - More than 76 million Vietnamese voters, equivalent to 99.68% of the electorate, have cast ballots to elect deputies to the 16th National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 term. The turnout reflects public engagement in national governance and expectations for a new term of the nation’s elected bodies.

The success of Sunday’s election is demonstrated in the organization of the vote and voter participation as well as its political and social significance and impact on the operation of Vietnam’s state apparatus in the coming term.

Successful election

First, the election’s success was evident in its well-coordinated and tightly organized implementation nationwide. The process was prepared early and carried out in accordance with regulations, from candidate nomination and consultation procedures to public communication and the voting process.

Ms. Nguyen Quynh Lien, Head of the Department of Democracy, Supervision and Social Criticism of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, said: "Voters paid special attention to the action programs and activities of the candidates. This clearly demonstrates the proactive and responsible approach of voters in learning about their representatives. Such engagement plays an important role in enabling voters to make informed choices, selecting candidates with virtue, capability, and dedication, deserving to represent the will and aspirations of the people."

The candidates for the 16th National Assembly and People’s Councils for the 2026-2031 term were selected to ensure representation across diverse social groups.

Active voter participation was a key factor in the election’s success. Voter turnout reached 99.68%, with all 34 provinces and cities recording participation rates above 99%. Four localities reported a turnout rate of 99.99%.

This election highlighted the growing role of information technology, which helped improve its efficiency, transparency, and accuracy.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh, Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly and member of the National Election Council, said: "Information on voter cards and voter lists was digitized. As a result, data updates on election day were extremely fast, with figures refreshed approximately every 10-15 minutes, nearly in real time on the system."

Expectations for the new term

The democratic, transparent, and lawful organization of the election helped to strengthen public confidence in the political system, made citizens more aware of their role in political life, and reinforced the connection between voters and elected bodies.

Some voters said: “We chose outstanding representatives. We hope the elected deputies will help us achieve greater development.”

“This is the first election held under the two-tier local government model. We hope the elected deputies will devote their full efforts to serving the people and the Party, and contributing to building a more prosperous and better homeland.”

“I personally voted for representatives who truly deserve the role. I hope they will fulfill their responsibilities after being entrusted by the Party and supported by the people.”

The success of the election brings high expectations for the new term. The elected deputies will be responsible for responding to the voters’ will and aspirations in the legislative process, overseeing the activities of state agencies, and deciding on important national issues.
