A nationwide texting campaign was launched last week, calling on the public to support the fight against Covid-19. All the money collected will be used to buy medical equipment and supplies to protect doctors, nurses, soldiers, and others on the front line of the battle against the deadly coronavirus, and to support people under enforced quarantine. As of noon Saturday, 1.9 million USD had been collected via SMS messages.

Enterprises, social organizations, and artists have donated money, hand sanitizer, and facemasks.

Le Thi Huong, a resident of Quang Ninh province, sent hundreds of free boxed meals to Quang Ninh’s quarantine hospital 2. Huong, who owns a small steamed rice roll restaurant, said: “We worked throughout the night to make hundreds of steamed rice roll meals in time for breakfast at the hospital. We wanted to support doctors, nurses, and patients there.”

Many hotels in Ha Noi, Quang Ninh, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City have made themselves available as quarantine areas. Bao Minh Radiant, a 4-star hotel in Ha Long City, Quang Ninh province, offered free rooms, meals, and laundry services for nearly 160 people under quarantine.

Bui Thi Thuy Hanh, the hotel’s director, said: “Foreign guests under quarantine in our hotel say they are grateful to the hotel, to Quang Ninh province, and to Vietnam. We understand that we are safe only when our country is safe. I hope other people will join our efforts to fight Covid-19.”
