Female football striker Pham Hai Yen is Hanoi’s youngest outstanding citizen this year. At the age of 29, she has made outstanding contributions to the Hanoi women's football team and the Vietnamese women's national football team.
She won the national U19 championship twice with the Hanoi youth team, won the national championship 3 times, and was runner-up for the national cup once.
Yen expressed her pride to be honored as an outstanding citizen of the capital, adding, “This means my contributions to Hanoi sports have been recognized. In the future, I must work harder in training and competition to motivate young people to follow so that Hanoi sports can develop further."
81-year-old Le Dinh Duat, a member of the Veterans Association of Thanh Xuan Trung ward, Thanh Xuan district, was honored for his efforts over the past 24 years, mobilizing 1,300 people to donate 1,200 units of blood.
He and his family are shining examples in the blood donation movement, said Duat, insisting that he didn’t think about the pros and cons, nor seek honor. But now he feels even more proud knowing that state agencies and people recognize what he has done.
“Every time I’m honored, it means it’s time to accept a new mission. It's like assigning me another task, which I have to do better and not give up. I'm 81 years old now, but I promise to continue the work until I no longer have the strength to do it," said Duat.
