(VOVWORLD) - In the festive atmosphere of the early days of the Lunar New Year 2026, localities nationwide have launched a tree-planting festival called“ Forever Grateful to President Ho Chi Minh”.

On Monday, localities in Ninh Binh province simultaneously launched the 2026 tree planting festival. Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Tran Song Tung said tree planting and forest development is important for Ninh Binh as the province strives to achieve its goal of becoming a centrally run city by 2030, characterized as a “Millennium Heritage Urban Area.”
Officials, soldiers, and residents in the Truong Sa Special Zone of Khanh Hoa province planted 1,500 trees and continued the “Greening Truong Sa” program. In 2025, more than 100,000 trees of various species were planted on Truong Sa island.
The Voice of Vietnam will launch a tree-planting festival on Tuesday at the VOV College in Ninh Binh province. VOV President Do Tien Sy, staff members, and students will participate.
Trieu Van Luc, Deputy Director of the Forestry and Forest Protection Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, said: "Selecting appropriate tree species for the 2026 tree-planting festival and for forestation plans is of decisive importance to forest survival rates and quality. Localities are advised to base their choices on the lists of key species and principal indigenous species approved by the Ministry and provincial authorities."
President Ho Chi Minh launched Vietnam’s first tree planting festival on January 10, 1960, planting trees at Thong Nhat Park in Hanoi. For the past 66 years, the festival has been a cherished national Lunar New Year tradition, an important part of preserving nature and developing the ecological environment.
