Green jobs instead of dirty ones

Green employment campaign aims to create jobs which foster environmental protection for sustainable development. This includes the production of equipment and building of working places which are friendly to the environment. The green employment program will help Vietnam support the most vulnerable and create further income while ensuring social equality. Le Thanh Ha from the Confederation of Labor Union said: “Vietnam has a great potential to create green jobs thanks to our integration of sustainable development in social economic development plan over the next decade. We have made progress in economic growth and addressing social issues. Still, more attention should be paid to environmental issues, such as clean water, sanitation and lowering carbon emission.”
The government has initiated a green growth strategy to build up a green economy and create green jobs. Deputy Chairman of Vietnam Confederation of Labor Union, Mai Duc Chinh, says this will help Vietnam better cope with challenges in economic growth and social equality. Chinh elaborates: “We are aware that green economy is the foundation for overcoming economic and ecological crisis. We have mapped out specific plans to promote green economy and ensuring social welfare.”
The green economy will protect workers’ health and ensure sustainable employment for poverty reduction. However, the application of advanced and clean technology and renewable resources industry development will require a change in working methodology and job trimming. Le Thanh Ha said that the labor union plays a crucial role in mitigating this impact:“The trade union will send the message across to workers on green employment and possible problems in the growth model restructuring and application of green technology. We will develop a pool of workers who are good at green techniques so that they could participate in this process.” The trade union and workers will participate in regular activities to protect the environment and foster working place environment, including dealing with noise and pollution in industrial zones.
