Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong said that in the national history, young Vietnamese people have raised high the spirit of patriotism and have never flinched from hardship and sacrifices to venture for national construction and defense. Over the last 80 years, the Ho Chi Minh Youth Union has steadily developed and fulfilled its task of consolidating, rallying, educating, and encouraging young people to join revolutionary movements. In recent years, many outstanding young people have appeared in practical and diverse activities nationwide, upholding the Union’s glorious tradition. Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong said: "Various meaningful activities have been replicated. Pioneering movements on socio-economic development and national defense in collaboration with career building have had good results in society. Activities to improve young people’s knowledge of tradition, morality, lifestyle, culture, and sports, and movements to support poor victims of natural disasters have attracted a large number of young people. They have contributed to the nation and confirmed the pioneering role of the Youth Union. The Youth Union has been reinforced and the unity front for the youth has been expanded. The political qualification of the Union members has been improved. The Union leaders are young and knowledgeable and will be a reliable resource of personnel for the Party, the administration, and organizations at all levels."

Party leader Trong said the 11^th Party Congress identified guidelines, targets, and tasks for the nation in the next 5 years. For the younger generation, the Party focuses on political and ideological education, morality, and lifestyle. Trong said youth development is vital work for a nation and one of the decisive factors in a revolution’s success or failure.

"The Party and State have placed special care for youth affairs and trust on young people and the Youth Union. Young people themselves and the Youth Union should be fully aware of their role and missions, improve their responsibilities, and continuously cultivate knowledge and revolutionary virtues to take the lead in fighting poverty and meet the demand of national construction and defense in the new period," Trong said. 

Party leader Trong called on the Youth Union to concentrate on political and ideological education for young people, which is an urgent task, a long-term strategy, and an effective measurement of the Union’s performance. The Union is asked to assist the Party to unite and educate young people and build a generation of young people with a firm political stance, knowledge, and creativity, who will be loyal and excellent successors to the Party and nation’s revolutionary course. Trong instructed the Union to implement diverse, attractive, and practical training methods in collaboration with families, schools, and society. He asked the Union to promote the vanguard role, innovative minds, and volunteer spirit of young people, and encourage them to take the lead in the national industrialization and modernization process. Trong said Youth Union activities should support the nation’s political tasks, especially in socio-economic development, political stability, and Party building.
