(VOVWORLD) -Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha signed Prime Minister’s Decision on Wednesday adopting a master plan on the development of airports in Vietnam during the 2021 to 2030 period, with a vision towards 2050.

Accordingly, the renovation, expansion, and construction of airports nationwide is set to give extra impetus to local socio-economic development whilst ensuring that more than 97% of the population can access an airport within a distance of 100km.

In the 2021 to 2030 period the nations expects to have 30 airports, including 14 international ones, including Van Don, Cat Bi, Noi Bai, Tho Xuan, Vinh, Phu Bai, Da Nang, Chu Lai, Cam Ranh, Lien Khuong, Long Thanh, Tan Son Nhat, Can Tho, and Phu Quoc. Meanwhile, the 16 airports serves only domestic flights.

The master plan estimates that about 420 trillion VND (18 billion USD) will be needed in funding as a means of developing the airport system until 2030, which will be funded by the state budget and other sources of capital.

Priority will also be given to expanding key international airports and building airports in remote, mountainous, and island areas.
