ASEAN members promote active adaptation, mitigate risks

(VOVWORLD) -ASEAN countries have discussed measures to speed up negotiation for early conclusion of the  Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) trade deal.

Vietnam, as the Chair of ASEAN in 2020, has proposed priorities in e-commerce, energy, information technology and sustainable development.

Head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s Multilateral Trade Policy, Luong Hoang Thai said a connected community would boost active adaptation and preparedness against adverse challenges.

He added: “We are to review ASEAN priorities in economic community building. The ASEAN members have applauded Vietnam’s recommendations to boost inter-ASEAN trade activities.”

Industry and Trade Minister Tran Tuan Anh said out of Vietnam’s 13 initiatives, 12 have been approved by ASEAN Economic Ministers.

“In our joint statement, ministers agreed to promote cooperation and corporate exchanges through agreements and mutual recognition of equivalent standards and product standards,” said Minister Tuan Anh.

Vietnam has recommended a ministerial statement to maintain supply chain and economic recovery in the context of Covid-19 outbreak.
