President Truong Tan Sang receives Austrian President Heinz Fischer in Hanoi
(VOV) - Austrian President Heinz Fischer left Ho Chi Minh City yesterday concluding his three-day visit to Vietnam. During his stay, President Fischer held talks with President Truong Tan Sang, paid a visit to Party Secretary General Nguyen Phu Trong, and met with Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung. He attended several forums on business and education as well as visiting some cultural heritage sites around Ho Chi Minh City. A number of memoranda of understanding on cooperation were signed during the visit, covering various fields including industry, trade, energy and tourism. Agreements were also made on health care, fire fighting and prevention and vocational training projects with ODA from Austria. The leaders of both countries reached a consensus on stepping up cooperation at multilateral forums and in international organisations, particularly the United Nations. President Fischer’s visit, which takes place as Vietnam and Austria are preparing to celebrate 40 years of diplomatic ties in December, is an important milestone that marks a step forward in their traditional cooperative relationship.
