Ban Ki-moon will not run for South Korea President

(VOVworld) – Former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has ruled out running for South Korea President, saying he was sorry for disappointing many people. At Wednesday’s news conference, he said he has given up any intention of leading political change and trying to achieve national reconciliation. He said his patriotism and desire to "change politics" have been eroded by being the target of political slander and fake news.

South Korea's ruling and opposition parties both expressed shock over Ban’s unexpected withdrawal. Kim Sung-won, the spokesman of the ruling Saenuri Party, said Ban’s withdrawal is "shocking" and "regrettable", and said he hopes Ban will continue to contribute based on his experience as the UN chief.
