(VOVWORLD) - The Bank of England on Thursday raised interest rates for the first time in a decade to contain inflation caused by Brexit.

The bank said it increased its benchmark interest rate from 0.25% to 0.50%. England’s inflation rate in the last 9 months reached 3%, due to the pound weakening during Brexit negotiations.
