(VOVworld) – The Belgian federal prosecutor’s office said Thursday that Belgian authorities have approved the extradition to France of Salah Abdeslam, the main suspect in the November 2015 Paris attacks.

Abdeslam’s lawyer said earlier that the suspect had agreed to be transferred to France under a European arrest warrant, clearing the way for a fast-track extradition. Abdeslam said he wants to cooperate with the French authorities.

Belgian and French authorities will coordinate in effecting the transfer. French Justice Minister Jean-Jacques Urvoas said that unless there are exceptional circumstances, the extradition will take place within 10 days. Belgian investigators still can question Abdeslam in France.

The White House said the US has sent FBI teams to help Belgian authorities investigate the March 22 attacks at the international airport and metro station in Brussels.
