BRICS Foreign Ministers' Meeting opens in Russia

(VOVWORLD) -Foreign ministers of the world’s emerging economies (BRICS) are meeting in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, to discuss strengthening multilateralism, cooperation within BRICS and other forums, and expanding membership, including Turkey's application to join.

The delegates will discuss implementation of the directives of the leaders of the countries recorded in the declaration of the BRICS Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa, last August, and preparations for the BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia, in October.

During this meeting, at which Russia is the rotating BRICS chair, an expanded session was held with BRICS foreign ministers and representatives from 15 invited countries and regional organizations, including the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), ASEAN, the Indian Ocean Rim Association, the African Union, and the League of Arab States.

BRICS is an intergovernmental organization comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, and the United Arab Emirates.
