(VOVworld) - Tension between Japan and China escalates following visits to Yasukuni Shrine by Japanese officials and legislators. Chinese media reported the visit of 168 Japanese legislators to Yasukuni Shrine on Tuesday saying it was a sign of the rise of Japan’s right-wing. Previously, the Chinese Foreign Ministry voiced strong opposition to the visit by Deputy Prime Minister Taro Aso and two other Japanese politicians to the Yasukuni Shrine last Sunday. At a press conference, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying urged Japan to adopt a correct view on its history of aggression so as to develop relations with other Asian countries. The same day, in Tokyo, Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida and US Deputy Secretary of State William Burns agreed to cooperate to handle the threat of further North Korean nuclear tests. Kishida and Burns agreed that Japan and the US should discuss ways to persuade North Korea to rejoin six- party talks on denuclearization. 28 members of NATO have called on North Korea to give up its nuclear weapon as well as nuclear tests and missile launches, and resume negotiations on denuclearization.
