(VOVworld) – The Republic of Korea’s government is using diplomatic channels to voice their opposition to increasing activity by Chinese fishing vessels in Korea’s Yellow Sea, said the Yonhap News Agency on Tuesday. A South Korean government official told the news agency that the Seoul administration has asked China to act immediately to solve the problem. In response, Beijing promised measures to reduce these illegal fishing activities including increased patrol and enforcement activities at sea as well as educating fishermen. The Korean government plans to discuss the issue at a joint meeting on fishing next month. Chinese fishing vessels flocked to RoK’s Yellow Sea while the Korean navy and marine police focused on rescue activities for the SEWOL ferry that sank in mid-April.
