China, Russia promote bilateral ties within multilateral frameworks

(VOVWORLD) - China and Russia pursue independent foreign policies and embrace important responsibilities for maintaining global strategic stability, China’s top diplomat said at a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Moscow on Monday.

China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi said China and Russia will continue to strengthen their strategic coordination.

Lavrov recognized the importance of Russian-Chinese cooperation to ensure the balance of interests and urged the two countries to adhere to true multilateralism.

Wang Yi’s visit to Russia is the latest in a series of high-level visits between China and Russia, including Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Russia in March and Chinese Defense Minister Li Shangfu’s visit to Russia and Belarus. Russian President Vladimir Putin met last Tuesday with Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Guoqing during the 8th Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, Russia.
