China, US hold defense policy coordination talks

(VOVWORLD) - The China-US Defense Policy Coordination Talks was held in Beijing at the weekend and co-chaired by Song Yanchao, deputy chief of the Office for International Military Cooperation of China's Central Military Commission, and Michael Chase, deputy assistant secretary of defense of the US Department of Defense.

The event took place after Chase attended the Beijing Xiangshan Forum.

The two sides engaged in an in-depth exchange of views on the relations between the Chinese and US militaries, the military-to-military exchanges in the next stage, and issues of common concern, China’s Ministry of Defense said.

Earlier this year, the previous Defense Policy Coordination Talks between China and US was held in Washington after being suspended for two years due to strained bilateral relations.

At that dialogue, China expressed its willingness to develop a healthy and stable defense relationship with the US on the basis of equality and respect, and jointly implement the military-related consensus reached by the two countries' leaders at the San Francisco summit last November.
