Covid-19 updates worldwide

(VOVWORLD) - COVID-19 has caused, in 210 countries and territories around the world, 2.5 million infections and at least 177,000 deaths, according to Worldometer as of Wednesday morning.

The US is the hardest-hit country by far, with 45,000 deaths.
Director of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Robert Redfield warned Tuesday that a second wave of coronavirus could be even more deadly because it is likely to coincide with the start of flu season.
Europe is still a coronavirus hot spot, with new cases in Russia, the UK, France, Italy, Spain, and the Netherlands totalling 20,000.

A study published by France's Pasteur Institute predicts that 5.7 percent of the French population - roughly 3.8 million people - will have contracted the coronavirus by May 11, the day France will begin easing its strict nationwide lockdown.

Singapore now has the highest number of reported cases in Southeast Asia - 9,000.
