Under the licensing plan, the initial deployment phase will include four gateway stations and up to 600,000 user terminals in Vietnam. The scale reflects a methodical and carefully managed rollout aligned with the national telecommunications infrastructure roadmap.

Approval to use radio frequencies allows the system to legally deploy transmission and reception infrastructure in Vietnam, fully complying with regulations on spectrum management and ensuring no interference with existing wireless communication networks.

The approval highlights an evolving regulatory approach that balances strict management of Vietnam’s finite radio spectrum resources while creating controlled space for testing breakthrough technologies.

Starlink is part of SpaceX’s broader plan to provide global broadband coverage, particularly in remote and hard-to-reach areas.

In Vietnam, SpaceX has been authorized to pilot investment and business operations for telecommunications services using network infrastructure based on low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellite technology, under strict requirements to ensure national defense and security.

The pilot operation of LEO satellite services will run for five years from the date the Vietnam-based enterprise established by the pilot investor receives its telecommunications license, and must conclude before January 1, 2031.

SpaceX, formally known as Space Exploration Technologies Corporation, was founded in 2002 by American billionaire Elon Musk and is headquartered in Hawthorne, California.
