Da Nang's residents advised to use Covid-19 contact tracing app

(VOVWORLD) - The Ministry of Information and Communications has urged Da Nang’s residents to install the “Bluezone electronic mask” on their smart phones as a way to protect themselves from COVID-19.

The Bluetooth-based contact tracing app helps to detect when a user has come into contact with a COVID-19 patient. It links smartphones within a 2-meter distance and notifies users if they have come within 2 meters of a COVID-19 patient in the past 14 days.

When there is a new coronavirus case, health authorities enter the patient's information into a system that sends that data to smartphones running Bluezone to track the patient’s history in the previous 14 days. The app alerts users if they are at risk of infection and instructs them to contact health authorities.

“Based on other countries’ experiences, the ideal number is 60% of the adult population installing the app. In Vietnam, if 30 million people use Bluezone, we will reach that ideal number”, said Nguyen Huy Dung, Head of the Department for Computerization of the Ministry of Information and Communications.

Bluezone is a breakthrough in using technology to control the COVID-19 pandemic.
