Dak Nong Geopark recognized by UNESCO for second time

(VOVWORLD) - Dak Nong Geopark, which was recognized by UNESCO as a Global Geopark in July 2020, received the title for the second time for the period 2024-2027 at a ceremony held on Thursday evening in Gia Nghia city.

The recognition will help Dak Nong consolidate its sustainable development strategy and contribute to the realization of the UN 2030 Agenda's sustainable development goals. It encourages the conservation of natural resources, climate change response, natural disaster mitigation, and socio-economic development based on harmony between nature and traditional culture.

Joining the global geopark network has raised public awareness of geoparks and enhanced Dak Nongs prominence in domestic and international tourism. With the UNESCO Global Geopark title, were proud to build our ‘Land of Melodies’, where every mountain, every river, and every gong sound blends into a magical symphony, conveying the message of harmony between humans and nature," Ho Van Muoi, Chairman of the Dak Nong provincial People's Committee, said.

The park covers more than 4,700 square kilometers spanning six districts and cities. It has 65 geological and geomorphological heritage sites, including craters, waterfalls, and a system of 50 caves. Dak Nong Geopark preserves biodiversity and cultural, geological, and natural features, as well as traces of prehistoric human activities.
