EU leaders discuss vaccine passports at virtual summit

(VOVWORLD) - EU leaders gathered via video conference on Wednesday to discuss the possibility of common national measures, including vaccine passports, to allow travel between member states.

EU Council President, Charles Michel, wrote in an invitation letter to the 27 member countries’ leaders that the first meeting day on Thursday will be reserved for discussing future policies to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic. Michel emphasized that speeding up vaccinations across the EU would be prioritised. EU leaders will continue to debate the issuance of vaccine passports for those who are already inoculated, allowing citizens to travel  freely within the EU, thus kickstarting the continent’s tourism industry.
