(VOVWORLD) - Personnel from Level-2 Field Hospital Rotation 6 and Engineering Unit Rotation 3 left Hanoi on Tuesday for United Nations peacekeeping missions in South Sudan and the Abyei area.

Major General Pham Manh Thang, Director of the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations, said at the see-off ceremony that the field hospital consists of 63 members, all of whom have been thoroughly trained, meeting all UN criteria and mission requirements. The engineering unit, meanwhile, comprises 184 members, including 18 female soldiers.
Thang said the Department of Peacekeeping Operations, together with the Military Medical Academy and relevant agencies, has provided training in political, military, logistical, technical, and medical expertise, and peacekeeping knowledge for the two units.
“They have also been trained in English and some specialized content on United Nations peacekeeping such as international trauma first aid, air medical transport, sexual violence prevention, international humanitarian law, and explosive identification to fully meet the UN criteria and the requirements for performing tasks at the mission,” Thang added.

Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan said that over the past decade, Vietnam has sent 900 officers to UN peacekeeping operations. She said that the participating soldiers should be "messengers of peace" at the United Nations.
She said she strongly believes that the deployed units will continue the tradition of national solidarity and the spirit of international solidarity.
“You should do the utmost to fulfill the noble tasks assigned by the Party, State, army, and people, meeting the UN’s growing requirements in the new context,” Madam Xuan said.
