National Assembly Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Thanh said the elections of deputies to the 16th National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026–2031 term will take place in mid-March.

This is a significant political event, where the people exercise their rights and obligations by selecting their representatives to the law-making body. Ms. Thanh said the performance of the National Assembly in the new term depends on the quality of the deputies.

"Each candidate needs to develop an action program that is persuasive, effective and feasible. Their action program must align with the local conditions and reflect the concerns of localities and the people. Each issue should demonstrate the candidate’s understanding of people’s lives and sense of responsibility toward the community and society. The programs must also align with the National Assembly’s functions and tasks in legislation, oversight and decision-making on important national issues,” said Ms. Thanh.
