This is the third time Vietnam has been invited to the expanded G7 Summit and the 2nd time as a country without representing any organization or group of regional states.

"Vietnam’s participation in the expanded G7 Summit in Hiroshima reflects the international community’s acknowledgment of the country’s growing international status, as well as its active international integration and its constructive and responsible contribution to such international issues as sustainable development, climate change response, food security and energy security," said Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Pham Quang Hieu.

The G7 and expanded G7 members have promoted cooperation with Vietnam. G7 countries have included Vietnam in the priority list for energy cooperation which will create an opportunity for Vietnam to approach more investment in this regard and enhance cooperation with G7 countries to shift its economic model and speed up post-COVID-19 economic recovery.

"With a foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, diversification and multilateralization of international relations, as well as responsible contributions to international issues, Vietnam has strengthened its international status and has become a model for cooperation between developing and developed countries in responding to urgent global issues," said Ambassador Hieu.

"The summit will be an opportunity for Vietnam to promote its foreign policy and its image, call for support and investment, and demonstrate its responsibility for settling international issues."
