(VOVworld) – German Chancellor Angela Merkel said Berlin is considering proposing the EU to increase support for Ankara to deal with the current migrant crisis.

Speaking at a Youth Union conference in Hamburg, Germany, Ms. Merkel said the EU itself cannot control flows of refugees and needs support from other countries, including Turkey. She said Turkey can help the EU to contain the migrant crisis. Thus, Germany is willing to support Turkey in this effort.

Anger Merkel made the statement after Ankara called on the EU to support at least another 3 billion euros instead of proposed 1 billion euros to deal with the refugees. Turkey said in recent years, it has received around 2 million asylum seekers from Syria and Iraq and it is time the EU gets further involved in this effort.
