The French news agency AFP highlighted the pivotal significance of the congress, noting priorities for the next five years such as promoting the private sector, accelerating digital transformation and technological innovation, and pursuing annual economic growth of 10% or higher during the 2026-2030 period. The agency underlined that collective leadership remains an important feature of Vietnam’s political system.

The US-based Associated Press (AP) reported on the Congress, outlining key issues to be discussed by the delegates.

The UK’s BBC said the 14th National Party Congress serves as the forum for making the most important decisions in Vietnam’s political system over the next five years, ranging from economic and foreign policies to personnel matters.

The UK’s Financial Times (FT) observed that the Congress is taking place at a time when Vietnam’s economy—one of the fastest-growing in the world—is adapting to global trade tensions and profound changes in the international economic environment. According to the FT, reforms of the State apparatus, an emphasis on the role of the private economic sector, and the pursuit of double-digit growth reflect the leadership’s determination to realize the aspiration of becoming a developed country by 2045.

From an economic perspective, China’s China Daily noted that the 14th National Party Congress is being held as Vietnam emerges as a “growth bright spot” in Southeast Asia. Citing data showing that Vietnam recorded GDP growth of over 8% in the past year—the highest in ASEAN—the newspaper pointed out that documents submitted to the Congress have, for the first time, placed science, technology, and innovation at the center of the national development strategy for the next five years.

According to foreign media outlets, the Congress plays a decisive role in defining Vietnam’s political and economic orientations for the remainder of the decade. The decisions and personnel selections made at the Congress are expected to shape Vietnam’s development path for many years to come, as Vietnam stands at the intersection of major opportunities and complex challenges in the international environment.
