(VOVworld)- The Government’s monthly meeting for May chaired by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung opened in Hanoi on Sunday. Cabinet members reviewed the socio-economic situation this month and so far this year and discussed the government’s resolutions on major solutions to implement the socio-economic development plan and assist enterprises to expand their production and market and deal with bad debts. The macro-economy has witnessed major positive results so far this year. Inflation was reined in, the Consumer Price Index dropped by 0.06% against last month and export increased to 50 billion USD, up 15% against the same period last year while imports of production materials increased.In his address, Prime Minister NGuyen Tan Dung pointed out challenges facing the economy. Dung says: "We need to maintain the macro-economy, control inflation and at the same time, assist enterprises to develop production in order to achieve the target growth. To ensure a sustainable growth, we must control inflation and restructure the economy. It is necessary to select enterprises and give them necessary assistance to help them continue their production and business". During the meeting, cabinets members discussed measures to further stabilize the macro economy, control inflation, maintain an appropriate growth and ensure social security. Measures to tackle difficulties in implementing the National Highway No 1 and Ho Chi Minh trail projects in the Central Highlands were also high on the agenda.
