Mr. Phuc, who met voters in Hai Phong on Tuesday ahead of the year-end National Assembly, said the goal is part of Politburo resolution 45 for the development of the northern port city.

“Hai Phong is among localities with the highest economic and infrastructure growth. Over the past 5 years, it has built 46 bridges and hundreds of km of roads.  Many factories have been built with state and foreign investment. Its budget revenue has hit a record high while social welfare has been ensured,” said Mr. Phuc.

The Prime Minister emphasized the “twin targets” of fighting COVID-19 and promoting economic growth, adding that Vietnam is likely to post a trade surplus of 17 billion USD for the first time.

Addressing voters’ concern over the East Sea (known internationally as the South China Sea), Mr. Phuc reiterated that Vietnam has been proactively defending its maritime sovereignty and maintaining a peaceful environment for national development.

The country’s consistent viewpoint is ensuring a peaceful East Sea with freedom of navigation and overflight where relevant parties comply with international law, especially the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, he said.
