The goal is outlined in a 100-year master plan for the capital’s development, discussed by the Hanoi Party Committee on Friday.
Under the plan, by 2045 Hanoi is expected to emerge as a hub of global knowledge and technology, on par with the capitals of developed countries. By 2065 and beyond, it aspires to become a global city, ranking among capitals with the highest quality of life and happiness worldwide.
The city is expected to span approximately 3,360 sq.km, with population reaching 14-15 million by 2035, 15-16 million by 2045, and 17-19 million by 2065. The long-term outlook aims to keep the population below 20 million, ensuring sustainable urban density while maintaining the capacity to accommodate transient populations.
Other key targets include an average annual GRDP growth rate of 11% and per capita GRDP of 12,000 USD.
