Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko said the timing of the visit will be announced soon. He was speaking on the sidelines of the conference “India and Russia: Towards a New Bilateral Agenda”.
Rudenko said the crisis in Iran could feature prominently in upcoming talks, noting that tensions are affecting a significant share of China’s oil imports that pass through the Strait of Hormuz. He said Russia remains open to negotiations on Ukraine but that no specific dates have been set.
Rudenko reiterated Moscow’s stance toward the United States, saying Russia expects countries to adhere to international principles and norms they have agreed to. “In this specific case, the United States has strayed from that,” he said.
The Deputy FM added that the prospects of a US ground operation in Iran are dubious and warned that such a move would risk further escalation. “It’s unlikely to bring this conflict any closer to a resolution,” Rudenko said.
