Health clinics have been built in a great number of hamlets, helping Vietnam achieve the Millennium Development Goals of reducing maternal and child mortality and improving nutrition. Foreign healthcare experts, during visits to health clinics, praised local health workers for their efforts in disease prevention and primary healthcare.

Minister Tien underscored solutions to improve grass-roots health facilities: “Vietnam will offer a basic health package covering preventive examinations and health insurance. The health sector is working on a family medicine project. The Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization will set up task forces and build 10,000 health clinics across Vietnam. The Ministry is using ODA funding to upgrade services at grass-roots health centers”.

Minister Tien responded to deputies’ questions about measures to improve the efficiency of medical examinations and treatment, State management of drug prices, and delivery of medicine to health centers.
