At a meeting with the municipal People’s Committee and relevant agencies on Monday, President Phuc asked the city to identify specific goals and targets to boost the local economic development and improve its competitiveness and quality of life.
Mr. Phuc said, “Ho Chi Minh City should aim to become a smart and developed city with an innovative economy while upholding humanitarian values and promoting the cultural identity of Vietnam’s southern region."
Ho Chi Minh City should take lead in promoting entrepreneurship and innovation and becoming international education and medical hubs, he said, adding that all these targets must begin with strategic planning to serve mid-term and long-term development requirements.
He urged the city to use planning as a tool to develop the city in an orderly and firm way. President Phuc also suggested the city review its urban planning, planning of residential areas, industrial parks, and housing areas.
