Hue becomes Vietnam's sixth centrally-governed city

(VOVWORLD) -From January 1, Hue will become the sixth centrally-governed city of Vietnam along with Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Phong, Da Nang, and Can Tho, according to a National Assembly Resolution announced Sunday evening.

A ceremony was held in Thua Thien-Hue province on Sunday to announce the Resolution establishing Hue city under the central government and the Resolution of the National Assembly Standing Committee on arranging district- and commune-level administrative units within Hue city for 2023-2025.

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man said that the Resolution on Hue city was passed with very strong approval by National Assembly deputies. This opens a promising new phase for a locality with a rich history and culture, and strong potential and advantages, the National Assembly Chairman said. 

"The establishment of Hue city under the central government and the arrangement of administrative units at district and commune levels aims to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of state management and unlock the potential and advantages for socio-economic development of the country, the key economic region, and the city," said Mr Man.
