Incumbent PM Noda re-elected as Prime Minister

Japan’s incumbent Prime Minister, Yoshihiko Noda, has been re-elected as Democratic Party leader and Prime Minister of Japan. Noda is expected to reshuffle his Cabinet early next month. Noda won a majority of votes during his intra-party election in Tokyo on Friday. Running for Prime Minister were also three other candidates, namely two former Agriculture Ministers, Hirotaka Akamatsu and Michihiro Kano, and also an ex- Internal Affairs Minister, Kazuhiro Haraguchi. Noda’s popularity ratings have fallen below 30% recently.
