India-Pakistan relations show positive signs

(VOVWORLD) - India and Pakistan agreed on Tuesday to a phased withdrawal of troops and weapons from areas where recent clashes have occurred, mainly along the Line of Control.

The withdrawal is expected to be completed by the end of this month.

India also announced Tuesday that it will resume the daily flag-lowering ceremony at the border with Pakistan. New Delhi suspended the ceremony earlier this month in response to the most serious conflict between the two countries in decades.

The Indian Border Security Force said the ceremony, which typically takes place in the evening, would resume at the Attari-Wagah border in Punjab state. Media access will be available on Tuesdays, and the public will be admitted on Wednesdays. Pakistan said it never suspended the ceremony.
