(VOVWORLD) - Ambassador Do Hung Viet, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the United Nations, on Wednesday briefed the international press in New York, US, on the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

Ambassador Do Hung Viet affirmed that the 14th National Party Congress is significant in reviewing 40 years of Doi Moi (Renewal), assessing the implementation of the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress, and setting Vietnam’s development goals and orientations for the next stage.

The Ambassador highlighted new points in this Congress's documents, including "three strategic breakthroughs" to propel the nation forward in the new era. They are finetuning institutional framework, developing human resources, and accelerating infrastructure development while establishing a new growth model driven by science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation, and recognizing the private economy as a crucial driver of the economy, as well as identifying environmental protection alongside socio-economic development as a central task.

Regarding foreign affairs, Ambassador Viet stated that the 14th Congress, for the first time, identifies foreign affairs, and the promotion of international integration alongside national defense and security as essential, regular tasks.

He affirmed that Vietnam continues to steadfastly pursue a policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, friendship, cooperation, and development; diversification and multilateralization of foreign relations; equality and mutual benefit; being a friend, reliable partner, and active, responsible member of the international community; and upholding the highest national interests based on fundamental principles of international law and the UN Charter.
