Iran minister says nuclear talks nearing ‘good agreement’

(VOVWORLD) - Talks between Tehran and world powers to revive the 2015 nuclear accord are approaching a “good agreement”, but reaching one soon will depend on the other parties, Iran's foreign minister said on Sunday.

State news agency IRNA quoted Hossein Amir-Abdollahian as saying that initiatives by the Iranian side and the negotiations that have taken place so far “have put us on the right track.”

Negotiations to restore the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) resumed in late November after being suspended in June as Iran elected a new government.

The original deal offered Iran sanctions relief in exchange for curbs on its nuclear program. But President Donald Trump withdrew the US in 2018 and derailed the accord, prompting Tehran to begin rolling back its own commitments.
