Iraq: Car bombs target police

A series of car bombings in Iraq on Sunday, targeting the police, killed at least 19 people and injured dozens.

The deadliest attack took place in the town of Taji, 20km north of Baghdad, where four car bomb explosions killed eight people. A further 22 people were reported wounded. Meanwhile in gun and car bomb attacks in the city of Kut, 160km southeast of Baghdad, five police officers died and six other people were injured. It was also reported that one person died and five were wounded  in a car bomb attack at a  market in Diyala province, in eastern Iraq. There was no  immediate claim of responsibility for the attacks.
