The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attacks. A police source said a suicide bomber driving a booby-trapped vehicle blew himself up in the middle of the central market area in Huwaidar, 4 kilometres north of Diyala’s capital Baquba, killing 51 and injuring at least 80. A second bomb exploded at a check point operated by Iraq’s Army and the Shiite group Hashid Shaabi in eastern Baquba, killing 7 and injuring 25.
