(VOVworld) – Italy’s Matteo Renzi on Friday formally accepted the Italian Prime Minister post, kicking off hopes for a revival in the eurozone’s third-largest economy, which has been damaged by a deep recession.

Speaking with the media after nearly 3 hours of talks with Italian President Giorgio Napolitano, Renzi said that he has the responsibility to bring to Italy a government of hope. He added the government will start working on Saturday and a new cabinet has a chance to carry out reforms that have not been done for years.

Earlier, after being appointed to form a new government, Renzi affirmed that he, along with his new government, can survive until 2018 in order to carry out necessary reforms to bring Italy out of its worst economic crisis since World War II.

The new cabinet line-up was submitted to the president on Friday. For the first time in its history, Italy has a new government with half of cabinet members are women.
