Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told the TASS state news agency Sunday that "many different communications are emerging". "In this case, I can neither confirm nor deny it."
Meanwhile, the White House has not commented on the phone call between the two leaders. In an interview from Air Force One on Friday, Mr. Trump said he had a phone conversation with Mr. Putin.
President Trump has, in recent weeks, said he wanted to meet with his Russian counterpart. But officials from both countries have not yet officially confirmed any contact between the two leaders.
