Latvia holds general election

(VOVworld) - Voter turnout reached 20.46 percent after the first five hours of voting in Latvia's parliamentary election on Saturday, the Latvian Central Election Commission reported.

Voters went to the polls across Latvia in the general election on Saturday, with 13 political parties and electoral blocs competing for the 100 seats in the Latvian parliament. The centre-right party Unity and the opposition party Harmony are the biggest rivals in the election. The centre-right party Unity is for the enhancement of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization troops in the area, while Harmony party gained support from Russian speaking minority groups in Lavia accounting for one-forth of the 2 million population.
