In her opening speech, National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan highlighted Vietnam’s positive socio-economic achievements this year including remarkable growth in the economy, production, exports, and tourism. She said over the past 9 months, administrative reforms and the business and investment environment have improved, social security have been ensured, and national defense, political security, and the social order maintained. Vietnam’s position in the international arena steadily improved, thanks in large part to APEC Vietnam 2017.
During the 26-day session, the legislative body will approve 6 draft laws and 12 draft resolutions and give opinions on 9 other bills.
Chairwoman Ngan said: “All the draft laws reviewed at this session are of great public concern. They promote the 2013 Constitution in protecting human rights, and citizens’ fundamental rights and obligations, boosting economic development, improving the business environment, ensuring national defense and security, and strengthening anti-corruption efforts and administrative reforms."
She added that the National Assembly will conduct the supreme oversight of reforms of the State administrative apparatus during the 2011-2016 period. Deputies will discuss reports on the work of the Chiefs of the Supreme People's Court and the Supreme People's Procuracy, and other government reports on crime prevention, law enforcement, and anti-corruption.
